Kitchen Trends for 2018

It’s that time when we’re saying goodbye to the current year and looking forward to the next. And at Prestige, when we start thinking about the year to come, we can’t help but think about what’s coming next for kitchen design. If we can judge by how our kitchens will look, 2018 is going to be a fun year!

Blue Everything

Blue is everywhere for kitchens in 2018, from cabinets to appliances. And for 2018 it’s all about rich tones, even the lighter shades don’t go all the way to pastel. Sherwin Williams predicts bright color palettes will be one of the biggest trends in all the different spaces in your home next year.

So Many Bright Colors

While blue is the trendiest right now, color is everywhere, on everything, right now. And we love it. Fun, bright shades make any space feel happier.

These sinks are available in a rainbow of shades.

This bright yellow counter/sink/pantry unit looks amazing in it’s industrial, gray surroundings.  The contrast between the saffron colored unit and everything around it make it the obvious focal point of the large, open space.kitchen-color-trends-20.jpgPhoto: next125

Glass Front Cabinets

Glass front cabinet doors aren’t a new idea, but they’re all over for 2018. This style turns cabinetry into a display space for collectibles or pretty dishes. They also help create the illusion that your kitchen is larger by providing a sense of depth and openness. You do have to keep the contents clean and organized, clutter can’t be hidden away with these.

Adding designs to glass doors creates a more traditional look. This trendy green kitchen beautifully blends modern and farmhouse elements in a way that feels both current and timeless.Cabinet-Door-Styles-in-2018-Shaker-Cabinet-with-Glass-Door-Fronts-at-Better-Homes-and-GardensPhoto: Better Homes & Gardens
Mixing glass front with traditional cabinet doors is a nice way to break up huge spaces of cabinets and creates a nice transition between cabinets and the ceiling. Some people prefer using glass in only a section of the kitchen’s cabinets, you can do whatever works best for your space.Cabinet-Door-Style-in-2018-Cabinet-Doors-with-Glass-Fronts-at-Centsational-StylePhoto: Home Art Tile

Statement Floors

Floors are taking center stage for 2018. And while classic hardwoods will never go out of style, this trend is all about creating an amazing look with standout tile. Big or small, brightly colored or a more subdued palette, the options are limitless.

The clean lines of this minimalistic kitchen allow the beautiful patterned floor to really shine.  The open shelving, gold fixtures and blue cabinets are all on trend for 2018.4117193d452b73d563ea3797a8ff35e4Photo: Sea of Sanctuary
“Rugging,” a floor tiling trend where patterned tiles are surrounded by plain ones in a block style that resembles a rug, will be huge in 2018. Personally, we think this is a super cool way to add interest in an unexpected way.

Updating Your Bathroom for 2018

Your bathroom is where you spend a lot of intimate time in your home. It’s where you relax in the tub after a hard day, where you bathe your children, where you brush your teeth. And you deserve to feel good in there. Whether you want to do a full bathroom renovation, or are really just interested in a smaller project, there are so many ways to update your bathroom to help turn it into the space of your dreams. Here are a few of our favorite bathroom trends looking toward 2018.

Shower Plants

We’re not talking about a bouquet of flowers on the counter. Shower plants started trending in 2017 and don’t show any signs of slowing down. This is probably the most simple way to update and brighten up your space. The only limit here is your imagination; it’s all about having real, live plants in your bathroom. And while you can do whatever you want, the look tends to be more about greenery than flowers.

Don’t let the name fool you, the plants don’t have to actually be in your shower. Anywhere in the bathroom will do. The shower does provide the added bonus of eliminating the need to remember to water.4-bathroom-plantsPhoto: Cheshire Mum
The living wall is definitely a cool look, though maybe not practical for every space. Regardless of how many plants you use, you should try and choose ones that will help naturally purify your air.IiY5qYaiCYZlPhoto: Lonny

A Monochromatic Look

The black and white color combination is classic and will never really go out of style. Regardless, the color scheme is seriously trending upward for 2018.

Doing a bathroom in all black & white can instantly create either a vintage or modern feeling. The two toned look below manages to blend the two in a way that is very 2018. The round mirror and gold accents complement the trendy aesthetic quite nicely.

While it’s true that the black & white color scheme lends itself quite well to a modern, industrial look, it can be made as opulent as you like. This luxurious bathroom is a prime example of how swanky the two colors can be, especially when paired with all the mirrors, crystal chandelier, and gorgeous marble countertops. Traditional-and-luxurious-bathroom-in-black-and-whitePhoto: Decoist

Gold & Brass Fixtures

Once thought to be a permanent reminder of the 1980s, gold and brass fixtures are making a huge comeback. Trends really are cyclical and if you wait long enough, it seems true that everything comes back in fashion. It’s important to note that the brass and gold fixtures of today are different than your childhood memories of the finish. Today’s brass is a little more understated, a little less shiny than your parent’s was.

The simple lines of these muted brass fixtures make a huge statement in this gorgeous bathroom. The brass complements the organic wood countertop effortlessly. The trendy black & white floor tile is an unexpected, but fun, touch.  12-2Photo: Luxury Bathrooms

Fish Scale Tile

Also called mermaid tile, this look, as with all things mermaid, is trending hard right now. This versatile look can be placed anywhere you’d use tile, but we are really loving it for the bathroom. It adds a whimsical touch wherever, and makes for a great accent wall or shower tile.

The most common color for mermaid tiles is this dreamy ocean-inspired aqua, though it is available in a number of other colors. thisonePhoto: Mercury Mosaics

Round Vanity Mirrors

One of the easier ways to quickly update your space is with a round vanity mirror. Designers are obsessed with the shape and it almost instantly gives your bathroom a current feel.

The modern shape contrasts beautifully with the rustic vanity.  Reimagining vintage and rustic pieces as bathroom vanities is another look poised to be big in 2018. The mirror creates an even bigger impact when paired with a square shaped vanity and sink as shown below.MG_0162Photo: Park and Oak
