If you enjoy entertaining friends and family in your home, this is definitely your season to shine. Whether you love throwing cookie baking parties, gift wrapping get-togethers, or hosting your family’s big holiday soiree, there are a number of ways to ensure your kitchen maximizes it’s party potential!

Open Concept Layout

While there may be only so much you can do about the layout and design of your space, if you are building or remodeling there are certain options that are better for entertaining than others. An open kitchen/living area design is often considered the pinnacle of designing to entertain. The open layout allows host and guests to intermingle easily and keeps everyone from getting separated from the group, or isolated in small rooms.

This L-shaped island with the 2 level countertop and bar create a beautiful space for guests to congregate away from the ample work space on the opposite wall. The built-in wine fridge further maximizes the efficiency of the space and is considered a must-have for the avid entertainer.

Surface Potential

You go to a lot of effort decorating and prepping for your holiday events. You don’t want that all to go to waste because all anyone can see are dirty or damaged counters. Check out our post on the pros and cons of different countertop materials to see what will work best for you.

Granite is a great countertop choice if you plan on doing a lot of entertaining. It’s beautiful, durable, and easy to clean. It’s also naturally heat and water resistant, meaning you won’t have to worry about guests inadvertently damaging your counters.christmas-home-tour-2015-10-e1513701873820.pngPhoto: What Rose Knows
If space allows, having dual islands is ideal for the entertainers home. This kitchen has one island obviously designated as a work space with a sink and another large island perfect for a large food spread or beverage station.101860761.jpgPhoto: Traditional Home

Kitchen Trends for 2018

It’s that time when we’re saying goodbye to the current year and looking forward to the next. And at Prestige, when we start thinking about the year to come, we can’t help but think about what’s coming next for kitchen design. If we can judge by how our kitchens will look, 2018 is going to be a fun year!

Blue Everything

Blue is everywhere for kitchens in 2018, from cabinets to appliances. And for 2018 it’s all about rich tones, even the lighter shades don’t go all the way to pastel. Sherwin Williams predicts bright color palettes will be one of the biggest trends in all the different spaces in your home next year.

Make a splash in any kitchen with bright blue appliances. With it’s retro-industrial design this hood and stove combo covers multiple trends and instantly adds a pop of freshness to the space.

So Many Bright Colors

While blue is the trendiest right now, color is everywhere, on everything, right now. And we love it. Fun, bright shades make any space feel happier.

These sinks are available in a rainbow of shades.

Glass Front Cabinets

Glass front cabinet doors aren’t a new idea, but they’re all over for 2018. This style turns cabinetry into a display space for collectibles or pretty dishes. They also help create the illusion that your kitchen is larger by providing a sense of depth and openness. You do have to keep the contents clean and organized, clutter can’t be hidden away with these.

Adding designs to glass doors creates a more traditional look. This trendy green kitchen beautifully blends modern and farmhouse elements in a way that feels both current and timeless.Cabinet-Door-Styles-in-2018-Shaker-Cabinet-with-Glass-Door-Fronts-at-Better-Homes-and-GardensPhoto: Better Homes & Gardens
Mixing glass front with traditional cabinet doors is a nice way to break up huge spaces of cabinets and creates a nice transition between cabinets and the ceiling. Some people prefer using glass in only a section of the kitchen’s cabinets, you can do whatever works best for your space.Cabinet-Door-Style-in-2018-Cabinet-Doors-with-Glass-Fronts-at-Centsational-StylePhoto: Home Art Tile

Statement Floors

Floors are taking center stage for 2018. And while classic hardwoods will never go out of style, this trend is all about creating an amazing look with standout tile. Big or small, brightly colored or a more subdued palette, the options are limitless.

The clean lines of this minimalistic kitchen allow the beautiful patterned floor to really shine.  The open shelving, gold fixtures and blue cabinets are all on trend for 2018.4117193d452b73d563ea3797a8ff35e4Photo: Sea of Sanctuary
“Rugging,” a floor tiling trend where patterned tiles are surrounded by plain ones in a block style that resembles a rug, will be huge in 2018. Personally, we think this is a super cool way to add interest in an unexpected way.
